The volunteers at Feed My City are extremely important. Without their kindness and generosity, the essential work Feed My City carries out, would be unachievable.
With the demand for our service growing, we are always looking for more people to join our Feed My City family. So if you would like to help Feed My City feed those in need, please look at our volunteer roles and see what you would like to get involved with. Fill out our simple form and we’ll be in contact.
Get Involved By Filling Out This FormCall Handling
Time: 9 am–10 pm, 7 days a week*
As a call handler, you will answer the phone to people requesting food parcels from Feed My City. You will need to take their details and their food request and then forward this onto our team at the base. Each call will take a couple of minutes and across a day on average you will receive 7-10 calls.
You are never the only call handler, so if you cannot reach the phone or are on another line it will trip down to the next call handler. Therefore, you can carry out your daily tasks as normal even if you are call handling for Feed My City.
This role is remote so you do not need to be at our base to carry this out. As long as you have a phone signal you can do it anywhere!
Note: *There are only a small number of calls from 6–10pm.
Cook
8.30 am – 10.30 am – Monday to Friday
As a cook at Feed My City, you will help cook and pack the hot meals in the morning. This will either be chickpea curry and rice or tomato pasta, and no previous cooking experience is required.
As long as you like to cook, our team will teach you everything you need to know!
Hot Meal Driver
10 am – 2 pm – Monday to Friday
As a hot meal driver, you would need to come to our base in Beswick between 10 am and 11 am to collect the hot meals. We would then provide you with the locations for delivery and the contact details of the recipients.
Depending on your availability and the number of deliveries we have, carrying out the deliveries would take between 2 and 3 hours.
Dry Bag Driver
No specific time, whenever you can.
The role of our dry bag drivers is to store half a dozen dry bags in their car/home ready for onward delivery as and when requests come in. You would either collect these bags from our base or we would drop them off to your home. If we have a delivery in your area, we will text/ring you to ask if you can drop it off sometime that day. If you are free, that is great, but if not, there is no need to worry.
When you join the team, we will ask you what areas you are happy to drive to and your rough availability to ensure we are not asking you to do deliveries on days you are never free.
Dry Bag Packers
1 pm–3 pm – Wednesday
This time and day are flexible if you would like to join this team, but this specific time doesn’t suit you.
Our dry bag packers make up our dry food parcels once a week. As a group, you make up the bags, ensuring one of each item is in the bags, and they are ready for delivery.
Deep Clean Team
Two Hours, any day of the week.
The deep clean team come in for a couple of hours on any day of the week to help give our kitchen a clean and tidy ready for the busy week ahead.
The timing of this is extremely flexible, and Feed My City will work around the availability of the volunteer team.
Stock Pick-Up Team
No fixed time — 2 to 3 hours a week
Our stock team collect our food supplies from Aldi, Fareshare and several storage locations, then deliver them to our base in Beswick weekly.
This role ensures the cooking and packing team always have supplies to prepare the food requests for delivery.
The timing of collections is extremely flexible, so if you can join our stock collection team, we will work around your availability.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out this form and we’ll be in touch.
